This Date In Royals History–1969 Edition: March 10

The Royals made it three straight exhibition wins over the Washington Senators with a 4-0 win at Pompano Beach. Galen Cisco, Steve Jones, and Larry Sherry combined to shut down the Senators. They weren’t exactly dominant; Washington had seven hits and stranded 11 baserunners. The win moved the Royals to 4-1 in the spring training schedule.

Off the field, Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt withdrew his proposal for a Disneyland-style amusement park which would have been located at the planned sports complex for both teams. The park would have taken approximately 5,000 parking spaces away from the complex, and Hunt had decided that the remaining 15,000 spots were not adequate for football crowds. Royals owner Ewing Kauffman had expressed reservations about the park at first, then decided he would submit a bid to build it. Hunt’s decision did not change Kauffman’s mind, as he said he still intended to submit plans to the Jackson County government.
