This Date In Royals History–1969 Edition: March 20

Two runs in the 10th inning lifted Atlanta to a 5-3 win over the Royals in Fort Myers. Both runs were unearned thanks to a throwing error on center fielder Pat Kelly. That allowed the Braves’ Walt Hriniak to score the go-ahead run, and Mike Lum stole home for an insurance run.

The two unearned runs made a tough-luck loser out of Jerry Cram, who allowed only two hits and struck out four in two innings out of the bullpen. That followed four solid innings from starter Bill Butler, who allowed one run on two hits and a walk, and four more good innings from reliever Chris Zachary, who gave up one run on three hits.

Offensively, the Royals were led by first baseman Bob Oliver, who cracked a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Oliver also had a double on the day. Joe Keough collected two hits, as well.
