This Date In Royals History–1969 Edition: March 30

For the first time in four spring training meetings, Washington defeated the Royals, picking up a 5-1 win in Fort Myers.

Kansas City starter Bill Butler allowed four runs in the first, as he surrendered a walk, four singles, and one double. It was Butler’s only inning of work on the day. Reliever Don O’Riley did a nice job of keeping Kansas City in the game as he pitched four scoreless innings in relief, scattering four hits.

On offense, the Royals only managed four hits of their own. Kansas City did not score until the bottom of the ninth, when Joe Foy drew a walk and Bob Oliver doubled to drive him in.
