One day after holding the Phillies to one hit, Royals pitchers were battered for 11 hits and seven runs in Philadelphia’s 7-3 win in Clearwater.
Wally Bunker, in his last tuneup before his Opening Day assignment, gave up seven hits and four runs in four innings. Steve Jones allowed one run in two innings before the Phillies added two runs against Moe Drabowsky.
The Royals actually took a short-lived 2-0 lead in the first. Lou Piniella, just acquired from Seattle, homered in his first at-bat for Kansas City, leading off the game. Piniella and Jackie Hernandez each collected two hits on the day.
