The Royals had an off-day, as they traveled to Baltimore for the Orioles’ home opener. Baltimore, the defending American League champion, had started the season slowly by losing three of four to the White Sox in Chicago.

In non-baseball news, the 52nd Academy Awards show was held in Los Angeles, with Johnny Carson hosting. The divorce drama Kramer vs. Kramer cleaned up, winning Best Picture, Best Director (Robert Benton), Best Actor (Dustin Hoffman), and Best Supporting Actress (Meryl Streep).
