This Date In Royals History–1977 Edition: March 20

Buck Martinez led the Royals to a 9-7 win over the Toronto Blue Jays in Fort Myers. The catcher had started spring training slowly, possibly due to a new contact lens he was sporting after injuring an eye in an offseason hunting accident. But he snapped an 0-for-8 skid with a home run and two singles.

That was part of a 15-hit attack for Kansas City, who scored four runs in the third inning to take the lead for good at 5-2. The Royals tacked on two runs in the fourth and single runs in the sixth and eighth innings.

Kansas City improved to 7-5 on the exhibition season with the win.
