This Date In Royals History–1977 Edition: March 22

The Rangers scored three runs in the ninth to pick up an 8-5 win over the Royals in Fort Myers.

Sandy Alomar drove in one run with a double and Jim Sundberg followed with a two-run home run to give Texas the lead. All three runs came against Royals reliever Greg Shanahan, a non-roster invitee to camp.

Those were just two of the 16 hits the Rangers collected on the afternoon. Dave May, Bert Campaneris, and Sundberg had three hits apiece.

On a positive note for the Royals, shortstop Freddie Patek picked up two walks and two singles. He had been 0-for-19 before that.

The Royals dropped to 8-6 in the exhibition season with the loss.
