This Date In Royals History–1977 Edition: April 2

The Royals took a break from facing major-league opponents, instead facing a collection of minor leaguers from inside the organization. The big-leaguers unsurprisingly picked up an 8-3 win in Fort Myers.

Amos Otis had a big day, with a home run, two singles, and four runs driven in. Darrell Porter added a home run and a double, and Pete LaCock hit for the other half of the cycle with a single and a triple.

Dennis Leonard, the one member of the starting rotation who had been struggling in spring training, had mixed results in his six innings. The minor leaguers tagged him for five hits and three runs in the second inning, but only had two hits in his other five innings of work.

Today’s birthdays: Curt Leskanic (1968), Denny Hocking (1970)
