This Date In Royals History–1977 Edition: April 8

The Royals held a workout at Tiger Stadium, taking advantage of the day off between their Opening Day win and the second game of the series against Detroit. It wasn’t necessarily a fun time, as temperatures hovered just above 40 degrees on a windy day. But, as second baseman Frank White pointed out, “It would have been a lot colder out there today if we had lost the opener.”

Off the field, the team announced that all reserved tickets for the home opener on April 11 had been sold. The Royals planned to sell 5,000 general admission tickets, starting at 6 pm the night of the game.

Today’s birthdays: Jeremy Guthrie (1979), Carlos Santana (1986)
